First steps of lab work

This research is sponsored by NSF through a RAPID grant that lasts until end of July 2021, and because of this deadline, samples were processed in the rock preparation lab during the week while we were in the field on Friday and Saturday. This schedule allowed us to have all samples cut into small billets (ca. 2x3x1.5 cm) that were sent off to Quality Thin Section in Tucson, Arizona, to make thin section of rocks.

In the meantime, Dianna and Justing cut small pieces of rock that will be powdered after they dry. To avoid contamination and speed up the process, samples were placed in a low temperature (ca. 40-50C) oven. To be continued with the adventures of the shatterbox!
